A training provider that runs commercial maritime training courses has moved in to a brand new, state-of-the-art facility at Turnchapel Wharf on Plymouth’s waterfront.
SeaRegs Training specialise in commercial maritime training including survival and first aid for entry level seafarers right up to Stability, Navigation and Radar for Masters with notable clients including the Port of London Authority, the International Sailing Federation and other maritime institutes around the world.
Led by Directors Simon and Vicky Jinks, SeaRegs Training has taken occupancy of a new business unit at Turnchapel Wharf, Plymouth. The facility includes a modern workshop, classrooms facilities as well as a Transas simulator suite for pilotage and navigation exercises. Simon Jinks explains that SeaRegs worked in partnership with Turnchapel Wharf to ensure the new premises met their unique and growing requirements, stating; “Our new office comes during a time of growth for SeaRegs Training with more teaching space and more equipment required to meet a growing demand for our services. We have recently acquired Plymouth Sailing School so this new facility at Turnchapel Wharf will be critical to our long term success. In addition to our brand new classrooms, we have now easy access to the water to be able to deliver the practical elements of our courses with ease.”
Turnchapel Wharf is the former home of the 539 Royal Marines Assault Squadron. When the Ministry of Defence sold the site in 2014, new owners Yacht Havens Group developed the site into a thriving waterfront business park for marine businesses.
As part of the new building which was completed this summer, marine supplies firm Aquamare Marine Ltd have moved internally into new larger premises. The move comes after several years of sustained growth, both locally and internationally which led to Aquamare needing to increase their office and distribution units, as Director Mike Sommerfield explains: “Our company has expanded internationally with new clients across the USA, Australia and the Mediterranean. Our larger Plymouth headquarters will allow us to efficiently manage our marine product distribution to these countries, as well as providing the perfect location to be able to demonstrate our products to customers on the water from the waterfront at Turnchapel Wharf”.
Speaking about the new buildings and the continued development on the ex-Ministry of Defence site, Yacht Havens Group Managing Director Dylan Kalis said, “Investing in Turnchapel Wharf and developing the site has allowed a range of local, national and international marine businesses to grow and prosper. I am delighted that SeaRegs have joined Turnchapel Wharf and I hope that they’ll enjoy the same sustained growth that Aquamare has over the coming years.”
Dylan continues, “With the opening of The Guard Room café last year, the site now has even more facilities for businesses to benefit from. We’ve got further plans in the pipeline to develop the site further to meet a growing demand from marine companies who wish to join the likes of Fugro, Thales and Princess Motor Yacht Sales who are already on-site.”
