Managing Director Dylan Kalis has issued a statement today to confirm that Yacht Havens Group have successfully negotiated to acquire the former Royal Marine base, Turnchapel Wharves in Plymouth, from Defence Estates.
Yacht Havens are buying the site freehold. The purchase consists of 6 hectares (14 acres) of land and water area for an undisclosed sum. The group anticipate taking possession on 28th March 2014.
Formerly the home of 539 Royal Marines Assault Squadron, the land was offered for sale by the MoD using a formal tender process through Jones Lang LaSalle’s Exeter office.
Kalis said ‘This new acquisition comes at an excellent time for Plymouth as the financial climate becomes more positive. We can now offer ideal waterfront commercial opportunities in an existing purpose-built location, meaning there will be little to no delay for new businesses seeking opportunities to site themselves in a premium water-front setting.’ Yacht Havens intend to operate the site alongside their other premises at Plymouth Yacht Haven at Mountbatten, Yacht Haven Quay at Breakwater Road and Blagdons at Embankment Road.
The site will offer the means for future expansion of key marine services and other commercial ventures. Potential will exist to rent affordable workshop, storage and office space, bringing fresh investment and employment opportunities to the Plymouth area.
The broad range of facilities at the site include 180m of pontoon space with deepwater access and a 6m draft; a wide concrete slipway; vehicle workshop units; boat maintenance sheds; secure self storage facilities; car and trailer storage; office premises; start up premises and a refuelling station with marine diesel and petrol.
